PhD defence photography

What to expect on your day

Preparation
Before your defence begins, you're expected to arrive 45 minutes in advance to get ready and meet with the pedel. During this time I'm already with you to photograph the atmosphere and emotions leading up to your defence. From the practice round to the final preparations, you can fully focus, while I capture these first moments.
I know the routine by heart, so I help guide you through this part!
Defence time
A few minutes before the defence the pedel arrives to gather you with the paranymphs, and lead you through the beautiful hall to the aula. There the professors await you. Photography is not permitted during the defence itself. The ceremony must remain uninterrupted.
As soon as the pedel returns at the end with the words 'hora finita' I continue documenting the rest of the ceremony.
Diploma and classic stairs moment
You did it! The professors exit the aula first and you follow accordingly. Once you step outside, the celebration can begin. Wether you walk out calmly, burst into laughter or jump out of hapiness. I love capturing this part of the day, I stay on the background and capture all of the emotions without interupting. The pedel will lead you back to the aula where you will receive the diploma, the bul. From here I take the official dimploma photos followed by the classic ones on the stairs.
